They give you a reward if you break them open. Sometimes the reward is more resources. Other times you'll get special components you can't build. Every once in a while you'll even extra Akimi.

Hmmm... with out the game in front of me it's a little tricky to know where to look. Have you build every sculpture and plant? Are your Sculptor and Gardener upgraded all the way?
