I have been editing an existing Clyde pic for an avatar, but after getting it to 80x80, I am over 6kb. How can I overcome this?

What format are you saving in? What tools are you using?

I'd be happy to make one for you if you want to send me what you have...

Also, I don't know the limits - you'll have to tell me that... :)

Well it isn't really a big deal. I just found a pic (which I'll send) of Clyde and some chickens. I cut out a random Clyde hand and moved the chicken a little from the side, and cut the border, then made it 80x80 pixels. The only limitation it has is that is is bigger than 6 kb. I am using Paint (w00t!) mainly because I am on an AMD K6 machine with a whopping 128mb of RAM, so GIMPshop won't run that well. (My other machine is actually out of service while I send in my messed up mobo :x)

I will send the original pic and my edited one if you want, so you can see what you can do.

Run it through a compressor.

PNG has low filesizes I believe, save it as a PNG and run it through PNG Gauntlet. (You should be able to find a free version somewhere on the net).

I threw my avatar together in paint too!! Woo hoo!. Mine is like 50x50 but I saved it in JPG format and that worked. Hope that helps!

I messed with PNG Gauntlet and changed the file version, which shrunk it to 3.6 or so. Although the quality is somewhat crap right now, I'm gonna mess with it some more until I get a good image.

EDIT: After a lot of editing and testing of file types I finally did one of a JPEG, and oddly enough, it was only 3 kb. Weirdness. Anyway it is done! That is the most picture editing I have done without GIMPshop or Photoshop ever...I am a MASTER of MS Paint! I moved a hand on the far right side, flipped it, moved the left Clyde over, and gave him a hand and bracelet thing so it looked normal! I messed with the sky and ground border as well as the cloud. I am just too awesome!

Not having an avatar is awesome.

And I'm sad that I'm not one of the cool ones.

I guess I'm the trend setter? Nice...

Yeah, I dunno why no one ever used avatars before, but I stumbled on the option the other day and then remember today to try it out.
