So how do you send and how do said totems really work?

I hate to say it, but to be honest I'm not 100% sure! I have only just gotten to play the game since its release along with everyone else. From what I do understand, though, the totems will allow you to link to a PSN friend's village. You do have to get to a certain point in the game before you can use them, but what that point is I don't know because I haven't gotten there yet myself.

They work thusly:
Using the totem you can go visit a friend's village, but only asynchronously, there is no co-op play. You may visit and see it, but not interact with it, and not see your friend's avatar. You may also create "boxes" in your village's post office, place items (resources, components, etc) inside, and "ship" them to their village. So you can help them build their town in that manner.
